Makrigialos is a popular destination in Crete, for tourists of all kinds as it is one of the biggest resorts in the area which gives the opportunity to choose between different in character beaches – either sandy with shallow waters or with small pebbles and deep waters:

- Kalamokania’s Beach
- Koufonissi Island
The main beach of Makrigialos is a beautiful organized beach which is approximately 1km long and is known as Analipsi's Beach.The crystal clear shallow waters and the fine sand make the beautiful long beach of Makrigialos ideal for families with young children and non-swimmers.This organized beach has been awarded with blue flags and there are many tamarisk trees, umbrellas, showers, water sports many other activities. There is also a number of restaurants and taverns where you can enjoy a meal.
At the picturesque port there is another beautiful beach which is also organized and has the same features as the Analipsi Beach (clear waters and a beautiful sandy beach).
It offers a selection of some well conceived and decorated restaurants and taverns that suit all tastes. The traditional taverns of the area serve fresh fish that is caught from the local fishermen, while a la minute dishes, homemade food and other local traditional dishes are also served at restaurants and taverns. On the other hand, Makrigialos has an active nightlife scene, with its many cafes and open-air beach bars, which feel casually-stylish in the evenings. The area provides a local and not excessively tourist-trodden atmosphere.
The good thing about Makrigialos is that it covers the needs of both, families or couples that want to avoid manicured resorts, and looking for peaceful and unhurried holidays and young people who are seeking clubbing till dawn, cafes, sea sports and other activities.
West of Makrigialos and after the port (50m from Palmira apts) there is the beach of Kalamokania. It is a lovely beach with deep, crystal clear waters, sand, small pebbles and tamarisk trees. It is not an organized beach but there are some umbrellas and sun beds. The beach is not visible from the main road and is known mainly to the local people. However, close to the beach there are few taverns.
From Makrigialos you have the opportunity to make a day trip by boat and visit the opposite small island called Koufonissi. Koufonissi, with the white sand covering most of the island, the beautiful beaches with the crystal clear waters in blue and green hues that challenge you to swim, the various caves and the unspoilt landscape, will amaze you. In the island you call also see an impressive ancient theatre and many other ruins of the Hellenistic and Roman times.
